Links I Loved Last Week: A Round-up of Online Reading 5/16/15

Sunday Salon

Motherly has a thoughtful post on why mothers need mindfulness with three steps for getting started. Lots of good links to research as well.

Therapist Robyn Gobbel has written a terrific guide for teachers who work with traumatized children–which is most of us. She explains some of the brain science behind traumatized kids’ behaviors and suggests classroom management systems that actually work. I will be giving this to all of my son’s teachers next year and begging them to read it.

Another post I’ll be sharing with my son’s teachers about why some traditional classroom assignments are so hard for traumatized children. (Teachers, please PLEASE never ask your students, “What’s the worst thing that ever happened to you?”!!)

Angela Watson explains why listening to podcasts is such a good choice for professional development.

Steve Wheeler explores why it’s important to build a maker mindset in our schools and how our pedagogy needs to change to support making.

What’s Not Wrong? suggests a dozen ways to use Periscope in the classroom.

Terry Heick collects 12 Rules of Great Teaching.

This is an interesting list of 10 books that will change how you think forever.

Angie Manifredi shares advice for making your library a safe place for LGBQT teens. Good advice for teachers and their classroom libraries as well!

The Hub has a list of books to read when you don’t really have time to read. Many of these would be good choices to break a reading slump too.

I really want to make this Toasted Marshmallow Milkshake.
