Links I Loved Last Week: A Round-up of Online Reading 2/21/16

Sunday Salon

Terrific post at TeachThought about the 4 Things Innovative Schools Have in Common.

Three Teachers Talk answers some great questions about transitioning to a workshop classroom.

Cathy at Reflect & Refine advises us to stop trying to do more and focus on one thing we could do better.

George Couros has some characteristically generous and smart advice for helping our colleagues who are resistant to change.

If you’re in a teaching slump, be sure to read Pernille Ripp’s advice for breaking free.

Kellee at Unleashing Readers has some of the best advice I’ve read to Unleash Your (and Your Students’) Inner Reader.

I happen not to like Roald Dahl very much, but those who do need to check out this great reading list of Weird and Wonderful Books for Kids Who Like Roald Dahl. (And thankfully there’s plenty here for those who don’t much care for Dahl too!)

Pugs dressed as The 3 Musketeers? A chinchilla in a Wonder Woman costume? A hairless cat costumed as a dragon? Thank you Book Riot editors.

Rich in Color shares a reading list of 12 great (and diverse!) YA memoirs.

Alyson Beecher has a thoughtful post about the role of fiction in children’s nonfiction.

Lee & Low Books matches book titles with 7 Core Values to Celebrate During Black History Month.

I currently have an octopus obsession, thanks to Sy Montgomery’s book, The Soul of an Octopus. So of course I had to click through to read about the Seattle Aquarium’s annual Valentine’s Day octopus mating event, though the title basically gives the whole article away: Seattle Aquarium Cancels Octopus Sex Act Due to Cannibalism Concerns.

You should be! It’s excellent! I’ll be sharing with my Children’s Lit class and Adolescent Lit class as well.
