Process Notes: A few days ago, Trina’s wonderful post about the On Being podcast reminded me that I still needed to listen to Krista Tippett’s interview with Naomi Shihab Nye, who has been one of my favorite poets since I started teaching high school in 2003. I was listening, driving, and trying to take notes. I thought writing a found poem would be easy, but it was surprisingly challenging to figure out what to keep and what to leave out and what order to put things in.

I love Naomi Shihab Nye and have listened to this podcast myself! I attempted to write 3 lines in my bullet journal everyday for a while just to get back into writing last fall. Thank you for posting about this! Such a great memory and a heart filling moment. Beautiful!

I totally understand the listing to podcasts and trying to make notes! I dictate into my phone on the Google Keep app then can send it to my drive.

So funny…my slice tomorrow is about this same interview.(I’ve already written it because I didn’t want to lose it!)

This is a lovely poem that really captures what she had to say in the interview and has been saying throughout her career.

What a lovely tribute to both Trina and to Naomi Shihab Nye. I also found inspiration in one of Nye’s poems, but I’m not brave enough to share it. Both you and Trina write lovely poetry. I really like the concision in your found poem.

By the way, if I had been listening in the car, I would have been constantly pulling over to record pieces too!

On Being also has a great podcast with Mary Oliver and Mary Karr and MANY more!

  I’ve listened to the one with Mary Oliver, but missed the one with Mary Karr. Will definitely find that one. Another recent one I really enjoyed was with Greg Boyle. I LOVE his books, especially Tattoos on the Heart. Very important to me when I first began teaching. So cool that Krista Tippett responded to your tweet! I drive on nearly empty roads and have to confess that I sometimes jot down ideas as I drive. Probably not a good idea…

    Mary Karr’s the Art of Memoir another great writing book! In her podcast I think that she also talks about addiction and religion. All of the guests are SO Good! I also loved the one with Greg Boyle. There is another episode (I cannot remember who the guess was though) and it was about Haiku.

Love your found poem, especially the last four lines. I printed it out as inspiration for my writer’s notebook. I’m enjoying the recommendations for other podcasts. Our book club read Greg Boyle’s book last year, so I downloaded the podcast with him along with Naomi’s.

I’ve always felt that found poems really make you think and pick out what speaks to you. Given the same material no two founds would be exactly the same. Great job.
