This month, I’m tagging along with Christie, Margaret, Jone, Mary Lee, and other writers to play with poetry for National Poetry Writing Month. I’ll be creating poems using haikubes, metaphor dice, magnet poetry, paint chips and anything else that catches my fancy.
I liked the magnet poetry so well yesterday that I decided to play with the kit again today. I had some kind of nature poem in mind because the setting moon and rising sun were so incredible this morning. But then the first words I saw were feral and words, so I ended up with a poem about a poem that can’t quite be tamed. I think the speaker is the poem itself?
poem
this fantastic creature
a house of feral words
some tenacious wreck kindles ecstasy
the opposite of should creeps into your mouth
swaggers through enormous time
eager to turn the wild country of memory
into a black ocean of oblivion
your animal tongue plants silence in the earth
