Paint Chip Poetry: Playing with Poetry #playingwithpoetryNPM 26/30

This month, I’m tagging along with ChristieMargaretJoneMary Lee, and other writers to play with poetry for National Poetry Writing Month. I’ll be creating poems using haikubes, metaphor dice, magnet poetry, paint chips and anything else that catches my fancy.

Today I decided to focus on some new paint chip interior design brochures that my mom picked up for me. I looked through the brochures, hoping something would speak to me. I tried a few different ideas, but nothing clicked until I saw the slogan on the brochure for the gray colors: It’s natural to love gray. Paint chip colors are in bold.

it’s natural to love gray
the color of cobblestone streets, tabby cats, warm flannel.

gray is the majestic elegance of English castles
peaceful dreams of coastal pleasures

gray is the chance of showers before drizzle
the sigh of relief after the rain

gray is an old soul
it’s natural to love gray

I love that your mom is helping you with this project. And I love how you used the slogan from the brochure to pull your bookends. Perfect! This poem makes me want to curl up on the couch in my pj’s! So sensory!

Love how your gray poem pulled in those rainy days and English castles and tabby cats. Who knew gray was so lovable?
