Today I: Slice of Life 12/31 #sol20

Today I started my morning with a much-too-brief snuggle with my favorite cat, Chipotle.

Today I drove through some typical South Dakota weather on my way to run errands: sunny, snow squall, cloudy, sunny, snow squall. Sunglasses on, off, on, off.

Today I am going to the grocery store so that the older people I know don’t have to.

Today I am wondering what else I can do to help the most vulnerable people in my community.

Today I am wondering why it takes the NBA and Tom Hanks to convince many Americans that this is serious.

Today I feel like every hour contains about a year’s worth of news.

Today I am too worried and distracted to write a slice.

Thanks to Shaggers Picchu Blog for the “Today I” format inspiration.

I know what you mean. I am almost afraid to watch the news anymore for fear of what new terrors await us. I think Chipotle needs more snuggle time.

Chipotle is very ready for more snuggles! As am I!

In Estonia too the news keep coming and the situation changes with hours. It is a strange situation, one we have never experienced before. I hope you will find moments like snuggles to distract you from the situation.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Yes, so many changes and so quickly, it’s very hard to keep up with everything we need to know!

A perfect post for a day like today. I chose to write about books and may keep those book posts coming for awhile. Our school district is closing tomorrow. “Based on recent conversations with OSPI and the Governor’s office, the duration of this closure is uncertain but could extend for five to six weeks.” Yikes!

My goodness! I know some colleges and universities have closed for the semester. I am hoping to feel settled enough tomorrow to write about books because I have a post I want to write about tracking my reading, since that has entirely fallen apart over the last year.

I perfect slice for a day when many of us are scare and growing more and more concerned. perhaps one thing we can all do is to help each other. I need to offer my help to others.
    Thanks for the reminder.

I thought to offer some grocery shopping to others today after reading a story on Twitter this morning: a woman was heading into the grocery store when an elderly couple who were sitting in their car got her attention banging on their car window. They had been sitting there for 45 minutes hoping there would be someone who looked kind enough whom they could ask to do their shopping for them because they were terrified to go into the store.

This is, again, another great format!

Our school district remains open. Any events with more than 200 people anticipated to attend are canceled. It is such weird and a bit scary of times…

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

And everything is changing so quickly! New information comes in, which leads to new cancellations…. Hard to keep up!

Great slice for today! It’s scary! So nice of you to help out the people in your community.

I was so glad to find something I could manage to write this morning when I felt like I couldn’t write at all.

This was a great list. I loved this so much: “Today I am wondering why it takes the NBA and Tom Hanks to convince many Americans that this is serious.”

It’s interesting how something that should be pretty abstract for most of us–celebrities and an athlete contracting coronavirus should certainly feel more removed to us than the people in our own communities who are already affected–can really make us feel the impact and reality of something.

I agree. That was an amazingly powerful line. (And a sad state of affairs.)

I needed an idea, so thank you! I used this several years ago but had forgotten about it. It is a strange time we are living in, that is for sure. Best to you!

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

So glad this idea helped you out today! I didn’t think I was going to be able to write this morning, but this format helped me find a short piece!

This is great format to express what one os feeling/doing/thinking. I share your worry as more and more news trickles in.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Yes, it’s hard to turn the news off these days.

  11. Susan Kennedy Avatar

I was worried and distracted too. I nearly didn’t slice. Then I couldn’t write about my worries. Maybe tomorrow

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

I really wanted to write about something different today but couldn’t. Hopefully tomorrow.

I am in love with the picture of Chipotle’s paws. I may need to send you some pictures of Tippy.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Aren’t his paws darling? Yes please to pictures of Tippy!!

My cat-crazed 9 year old loved your cat pictures! I did not tell him that sometimes you write with five cats on your lap because I was afraid he would swoon. 😂

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

He and I would get along so well! And the five-cat lap is pretty swoonworthy!!

And the hype and news blasts continue, Elisabeth. Reading slices is a great way to be distracted from reality.

I’m grateful to have this challenge this month. At a time when we’re holed up at home, it’s so nice to feel connected to so many others around the world through slicing.
