This is a fun prompt. I wish I loved gardening. I’m working on it and this spring being home has helped because I can do a little bit at a time. I hate weeding. I cannot fathom ever loving that part of it.
I Love puppy smell. But we have lots of things in common, running, parties, staying up late, but I do love meditation. I wish I did it more often.

Gardening almost made my list! I enjoy it sometimes–but not all that much and not consistently. I’d really like to have a beautiful garden just kind of magically? Without having to do any work?? And especially without having to weed!

I am so used to seeing lists of things that people love and enjoy doing that this is a refreshing kind of list. I have never thought of making one of things I wish I enjoyed or liked more. I will have to give this a try when I don’t have an idea for a post.

It’s definitely a good rainy day slice idea. I didn’t think I was going to have time to slice at all today and knew my original idea would never be accomplished today. So I was pleased to find something quick and fun and a little different!

I am learning to love ereading, but I’ll never love staying up late. I know I miss some stuff, but I love my solitary early mornings. This is a great post idea!

I love my solitary early mornings too! And if you’re going to wake up at 4 a.m. most days, you really have to go to bed by 9!

This is a great list and a great prompt.

I was happy to find something I could write to this morning. I do love lists!

Lists are amazing – they can really tell such a layered story as well

Great prompt. Fascinating list. Some I nod to, and some make me wonder. The first thing that comes to my mind is: getting up early.

Any time we have to follow a sleep schedule that isn’t our natural inclination it’s challenging. For years I thought I was a night owl, but I was so very. wrong!

I used to wish I loved reading but I do now. I have fun reading every night, staying up late. I wish I didn’t like to stay up late though!

That’s a good one! Reading before bed is one of my favorite times to read too, but I only allow myself to read slow-paced calm books!

What a great prompt. I really have to think about this one — i think that most things I used to think I wanted to love but don’t, I have ceased wanting to love. But I will think about this. Will try it for next SOL.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

That is so true! As I was writing the list, I did think of many things that I once wanted to love but have long since ceased to care about. It was a fun challenge to write this. I can’t wait to see your list!

Ohhh. I can’t wait to try this list! 🙂 Thanks for sharing!

I am trying to love running right now because my mental health needs it. I never forgot a line from The Running Dream by Wendelin Van Draanen that I read almost ten years ago, which was “Running aired out my soul.” That is why i started running. Because I need to air out my soul on the regular.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Oh my, yes, no time has ever challenged my soul like this one! I love that image of airing out the soul. I will be so curious if you’re successful learning to love running.

There are items on your list I love. Then there are those to which I find myself ambivalent. The unlined notebooks certainly got me thinking. Across almost forty years of using a notebook I have used unlined and lined books. I actually didn’t mind the unlined notebook, but I certainly lean towards the lined ones. Maybe its the sense of order. Lists never cease to deliver. They provoke thought, debate and conversation. Thank you for taking us all with you into this realm of thinking.

I really do love lists, and I’m always surprised at how rich the thinking around a list can be. I especially love hearing about other people’s notebooks! I find that most writers seem very committed to whichever style they prefer. I find it so interesting that you can use both!

    Public speaking? Nope.

I’m usually a pretty good public speaker, but if someone watches me closely, they’d see my hands and legs shaking like crazy. That’s why I love writing. I don’t have to read it out loud and no one can see me doing my task! 🙂

Great list! I may need to “borrow” this for future use! 🙂

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Glad I’m not the only one who is nervous with public speaking! I feel like since I’m a teacher I should be super comfortable speaking in front of others since I do it all day, but nope, not at all.

I wish I loved running. Hell, I wish I could tolerate running. I also wished I enjoyed working out at home. Both would make my life a lot easier.

I also wished I enjoyed seeing pictures of people’s pets. It would make my social media life a lot easier. I literally only care if there are also people in the photo. 🤷🏾‍♀️ (Er, to clarify, I don’t mind that people post pictures of their pets because I know their pets are important to them and, in fact, I love that people post pictures of the pets they love. I’m just not interested.)

This comment made me laugh so hard. I mean, I now dedicate a whole day of my weekly blogging to pictures of my pets!!! You are very kind to read my blog even though there is likely WAY too much cat for you!! For me, if there’s a person in a pic with a cat, it’s like MOVE OUT OF THE WAY, let me see the KITTY! I do like doing yoga at home, and I have discovered over this quarantine that I really do like live classes. I’d never tried them before, and now I prefer them to videos.

I agree about e-reading—I’ve tried it many times, but I just prefer holding an actual book in my hands! Thanks for the great post!

I was just reading a thread on Twitter about this that suggested the Paperwhite, that the whole experience would be really pleasant if we get off our phones and ipad and computers and read on a dedicated e-reader. I wonder if that would make a difference? I really just like books as objects!

Same here! I have a dedicated e-reader, but I just prefer the feeling of holding a book in my hand.

  14. […] Ellington, who blogs at The Dirigible Plum, inspired my post today. Elisabeth wrote about things that she wished that she loved, but didn’t. […]

This is fun, thank you! I’m with you on e-reading, but it certainly is convenient (and a little more affordable) for college textbooks! I’m a sucker for a physical book, and regifted the kindle present I got for my last birthday. A few more things on my list: tofu, and cleaning house!
