Currently 6/31 #sol23

Inspired by: the Slicing community, a sunny break in dreary Michigan winter

Watching: Call My Agent, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Shrinking, Bake Squad, and waiting for the next seasons of Ted Lasso and BBC Ghosts

Reading: Jhumpa Lahiri’s Whereabouts; Kate Zambreno’s Drifts; Shakespeare’s King John; Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park

Thinking about: high-stakes assessments that ask kids to perform tasks that don’t exist outside of school; Mango’s re-adjustment to life outdoors after being trapped and spayed; upcoming parent-teacher conferences; deadlines I need to meet

Listening to: podcasts; promising to listen to some new music recommended by students

Dream life: I remember maybe two dreams per year and then wish I hadn’t. But if it’s the other kind of dream, I’m dreaming of coffee shops and travel and writing and forests and bookstores.

Researching: unit plans for Toni Morrison’s Sula; summer writing workshops for teachers; how to trap wary feral cats who keep escaping the trap

Eating & Drinking: first morning coffee; tahini breakfast cookie

Grateful for: cats; my mom; my husband; colleagues who keep my spirits up; good health

Jennifer at wahooliteracyteacher reminded me how much I enjoy the Currently form. I borrowed the categories and format used by Tracy Benjamin at Shutterbean

I think your dreaming one fascinates me the most. I am just getting going, and it reminded me of a dream I had that I also wish I hadn’t!

And hi!!! It’s good to see you! Sounds like from this post, all is good.

Hi! It’s so good to see you too! I hope my summer, at least part of it, will look like my dream life!

I love this format…you used some different prompts than I normally do. I’ll have to visit your slice next time I write a Currently post for ideas. I’m awaiting the next season of Ted Lasso, too…not much longer now!!

I’m counting the days to Ted Lasso! I really liked Shutterbean’s format for Currently because it definitely had a couple of categories I hadn’t used before.

This is one of my favorite ways to post. I’m saving it for a day when I really can’t think of anything else!

I usually save it for a day when I feel kind of writer’s blocky too. But it just felt so right for today, even though I had plenty of ideas for things to write about.

I also like the format you chose! Your prompts showed me lots about you. Thanks for sharing!!

It’s always interesting how much is revealed a person through a simple format like Currently! Definitely one of my favorites to read when I’m reading slices too.

I have not written like this before. What a great way to go about it. I am going to try this one out as well. I am wondering about Mango.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

It’s a fun format–and a good one to have in your back pocket for a day when you’re sure on time, inspiration or energy for writing. Mango (a feral cat in the colony I care for) seems to be doing well after her spay last week. We have a low-cost clinic that spays and neuters feral or community cats, and we’re trying to get the rest of the cats who show up at our feeding station fixed well before kitten season!

I love this format! It’s another one that I will be stealing!

I always love reading Currently slices as well, so I can’t wait to see what you do with it!

      1. Trina Avatar

I was already playing with one!

So fun to read your Currently. I love the format and will use it soon.
You can’t beat a sunny break to lift one’s spirits. Also watching Shrinking and looking forward to Ted Lasso. Do you watch C.B. Strike?

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

I’ve never even heard of C.B. Strike, but I see there are 5 seasons, which is just what I like in a new show–multiple seasons to keep me busy for awhile! I’ll have to check it out. I’ll look forward to reading your Currently–always a great format.

Where did you find 5 seasons? We’ve only watched three.

Definitely returning to this format at some point this March. Thanks for sharing.

This is such a good one to have in your back pocket! I don’t think I’ve ever pulled it out so early in the month but it just felt right for today.

This is a great format that puts the reader in the throes of your day. I am one who rarely remembers dreams, yet Kathy can recall hers in great detail.
