5 Celebrations for the Week 17/31 #sol23

  1. Senior events season kicked off with Senior Pinning, a sweet ceremony timed to re-energize seniors for this last stretch of the school year by officially acknowledging them as soon-to-be graduates. There’s food and a couple of (short!) inspirational speeches. Then families recite some solemn words, the seniors recite a pledge, and the caring adult of their choice attaches a special graduation pin to their shirt. Graduation season has officially begun!
  2. I will not be celebrating required essay assessments scored according to required rubrics, but I am celebrating that (1) I finished scoring all of them and (2) I can actually see tremendous growth in my students’ writing this year.
  3. Ted Lasso is back for a third season!
  4. I’ve stayed consistent with daily slicing even though the challenge has felt harder for me this year than in previous years.
  5. It’s Friday and there are only five wake-ups left until spring break!

What are you celebrating today?

I’m wrapping up spring break over here, and it’s been extremely restorative – excited for your upcoming break!!!

Husband and I watched Ted Lasso; we are obsessed! I didn’t realize the episodes would be released weekly though LOL, imagine my extreme disappointment at the end of episode one!

So glad your break was restorative! I’m going to try to be very intentional with mine so that it’s truly restorative. That may mean getting some work done next week so I don’t have things hanging over me during break! YES, Ted is released one episode a week. It feels so old fashioned waiting for the new episode each week.

That is such a cute ceremony for seniors! I’ve never heard of doing that but I like it a lot.

I’d never heard of anything like the pinning ceremony either, but I really like it!

I love celebration posts! My spring break starts RIGHT NOW! Your senior celebration is interesting as I have never heard of that. How big is your senior class? Have you ever heard of something like this being done for 8th graders but on a smaller scale?

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Hooray for your spring break! I hope you enjoy every single moment! I think there are 115 in our senior class. It would be a super cute ceremony for 8th grade too.

I like the senior celebration as a way to motivate them. Congratulations on finishing your grading and enjoy your break!

The seniors have to be on track to participate in the ceremony, and it motivated a number of them to finish credit recovery classes or pull their grades up in their current classes. So I guess it works!

I celebrate Friday. I celebrate that we are still here and writing and cheering each other up.

Friday is a wonderful thing to celebrate! And we are still here, still showing up each day, still writing and supporting each other!

Celebrations!! I love it (and I will definitely borrow this for next week’s post)….my celebration for this week is that I made it through without doing or saying anything that I completely regret!!

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

That is definitely something to celebrate! Avoiding regret is one way I protect my peace–which is always such a challenge.

What a great way to celebrate seniors. We c3elebrated with a two hour lunch with some good friends.

That’s wonderful! What could be better than to end the week with a two-hour lunch with good friends!

        I totally agree.

That sounds like a great way to celebrate seniors! I have never heard of anything like that before. Ted Lasso is a great show. I cannot wait to dig into the third season! I celebrate making it through the work week.

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

We’ve made it through another week! I actually didn’t enjoy the first episode of season 3 very much, but I’m hopeful I will enjoy the second one more. And if I don’t, I’ll just go back and rewatch old episodes!

Ted Lasso!!! Also, I see an awful lot of posts talking about how hard this year is in so many different ways. It’s true for me, too. I worry about us (teachers). Something is not so great right now – but it’s almost graduation & the essays are marked, so hooray!

    1. Elisabeth Ellington Avatar

Something is most definitely not so great in schools and for students (and teachers!) right now, but I am trying to protect the space of my classroom as much as I can and also find the tiny things to celebrate!

I especially agree with the part about this year being harder than others to write slices, I’ve felt the same. Celebrations make it all worthwhile.
