Over the past few weeks, I’ve visited quite a few local independent bookstores. And I always buy a book. In fact, I consider it my responsibility to buy a book if I enter an independent bookstore. Usually it doesn’t take long to find something, but I will stay until I do. For this book spine poem, I challenged myself to use only titles I’d acquired during my recent bookstore forays.

Jacob’s room is full of books
whispering in the wind
home truths
news of the world
happiness, as such
