An interesting prompt on Margaret and Molly’s poetry calendar is to rewrite an old poem. I decided to rewrite a very recent poem using a different technique to see how the poem might change. The poem is still inspired by a morning walk and the Ethical ELA prompt to write about what you might miss if you skipped an activity. The new poem went through several drafts and was originally much longer and more concretely specific about what might be missed on a morning walk, but I kept stripping away book titles to discover a poem that is quite different from its original version and also quite different from my intentions as I started drafting.
What You Missed Today in the Neighborhood
some glad morning
cold enough for snow
quiet footsteps
reawakening
