Golden Shovel 22/30 #npm23

I thought I’d have to give the golden shovel on Margaret and Molly’s poetry calendar a pass because I’ve never managed to write one, but then I saw Sonia using news headlines to write golden shovels for her poetry month project and I thought that might work better. I wrote down a headline that Cathy used earlier in the month to inspire her poem about the ever present possibility of gun violence. My light-hearted golden shovel is about our daily pile of napping cat and their tendency to be terrorized by small unexpected sounds. Our mostly former feral clowder is so jumpy that the slightest unexpected noise sends them careening around the house in search of a hiding spot.

They gather for their daily congress.
This meeting of feline minds confronts
no hardship, only comfort that knows no limits.
They sleep undisturbed until a small rustle of
unfamiliar sound strikes them like an exploding gun.
Disproportionate startle is cat law.

For my National Poetry Project, I’m playing along with the poetry calendar created by Margaret and Molly.

What a way to turn a bad news headline into a feline foray. My inside cat Fancy is so skittish, any disturbance can send her to the closet.

I have a scattish cat myself. Wouldn’t it be great if the headline had have read: “Congress confronts no limits of gun law”?
