Book Spine 27/30 #npm23

Today I decided to create a book spine poem. Once I chose the topic–from a book called The Reading Mind–I added the extra constraint that I couldn’t use any of the books on my teaching shelves, since there are so many good reading-related titles there. I wondered what would emerge if I scanned shelves that weren’t such a natural fit for titles about the reading mind.

The Reading Mind

abandon me
to joyful wild remedy
now second nature,
my life work,
alone,
living by the word
loitering and lost in place
finding wonders
a most beautiful thing

The Reading Mind describes itself and concludes that it is: a most beautiful thing. This is amazing!

I love this one! What terrific titles for inspiration. (I started playing with them, too!: A most beautiful thing/life work/lost in living, loitering/finding wonders/JOYFUL!) So thanks.

So much fun to read. I think I may need to check out Loitering (it’s a close cousin to another favorite word of mine, meandering).
I like how you forced yourself away from your teaching texts to create this poem. And look at the delicious medley you created. There are several more titles I want to investigate. Love book spine poetry!
